Visitor Visa

Updated August 09, 2023

A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), also referred to as visitor visa, is an immigration document that allows foreign nationals to travel to and enter Canada.

You can visit Canada as a tourist, to see family and friends, or to do business. Whether you plan on visiting Canada for a few days or several months, you must meet some important immigration requirements. There are so many reasons to visit Canada: with 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it’s hard to think of a country more beautiful or more varied. Late last year, Lonely Planet released its “Best in Travel” lists for 2019. And at the top of its “Top 10 Countries List” – Canada was selected as #1 country to visit this year.

There are two types of Canadian visitor visas: single entry visas and multiple entry visas. A single entry visa allows foreign nationals to enter Canada for one-time only. Multiple entry visitor visas permit the holder to travel to Canada for six months at a time as many times as they want, as long as the visa remains valid. They can be valid for up to 10 years, but the exact validity period is at the discretion of the visa officer issuing it.
